Practise Swedish with others

Last updated: 12/4-2023

One good way to learn Swedish is to practise with people who can already speak it.

Remember to be careful when you are going to meet someone you have only had contact with over the internet. Tell somebody where you are going and arrange to meet your online friend in a public place.

Refugee guide or language buddy

Many municipalities and voluntary organisations help people who are new to Sweden make contact with Swedes. These activities can have different names – språkvän (language friend), flyktingguide (refugee guide), fadder (sponsor), mentor, or kompis (friend).

Contact your municipality or go to the municipality's website to find out what activities are available in your municipality.

Practising with films

The films will teach you common words and phrases. You can pause and rewind the films if you want. You can also add subtitles to the film by clicking the subtitles icon in the box at the bottom right of the screen.
