Karlskrona
Karlskrona is in southeast Sweden, located by the sea. The town is built on several islands, and access is easy both to the archipelago and the countryside. There are several communities in the municipality with excellent services.

The town is a UNESCO world heritage site, but Karlskrona is also a modern municipality with a growing business sector and several public authorities among the major employers.
Housing
The biggest housing company is Karlskronahem, run by the municipality. New homes are being built in several parts of the municipality. In 2015 construction will begin of a completely new area, Pottholmen, where 440 homes are planned by the sea.

There are more than 130 nationalities in Karlskrona. Arabic, Somali, Albanian and Serbo-Croat are the biggest language groups.

Karlskrona has an active civil society with more than 300 associations. These cover everything from sports clubs and community associations to culture societies and religious associations.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
There are 38 comprehensive schools in Karlskrona municipality, with a total of about 7000 pupils. Eight of the schools are independent. Several different pedagogic programmes are available. There are also municipal and independent upper secondary schools.
Education opportunities
Municipal adult education and Sfi are offered at Vuxenutbildningen in Karlskrona, where needs-based education is also available through flexible learning via distance courses or group sessions in classrooms, during the day or in the evening.
Litorina Folk High School has a Baltic specialisation, which means that students there are also taught about the countries and peoples around the Baltic Sea.
Blekinge Institute of Technology (Blekinge Tekniska Högskola, BTH), is one of Sweden's most specialised higher education institutions, with applied IT and innovation for sustainable growth as its principal focus.

Public transport
Travelling to or from Karlskrona involves taking a southbound train towards Malmö/Copenhagen or a northbound one towards Stockholm or Gothenburg. Ronneby airport, located thirty kilometres from Karlskrona, has flights to both Bromma and Arlanda airports in Stockholm.
In Karlskrona itself, public transport is run by Blekingetrafiken. Its network is large, and its website as well as various apps make it easy to find timetables and the right connections.

Karlskrona has a varied labour market, with everything from hospitals to international corporations.
