Mora is the regional centre of northern Dalarna. The municipality is tucked into a beautiful landscape, with green forests and blue mountains at the northern shores of Lake Siljan.

There is a broad range of cultural and sporting activities, a lively spirit of entrepreneurship and a large range of shops. There are also good communications with major cities, nearby locations and the mountains. Tourists come to Mora all year round to experience the beautiful surroundings, take part in the world's longest ski race – Vasaloppet – and to visit the Zorn museum, named for the internationally famous artist Anders Zorn. Mora offers tradition, community and a forward-looking spirit. Housing
In Mora, you can live in your own house, in a tenant-owner flat or a rented flat. Around 12,000 persons live in Mora population centre. 8,000 inhabitants live in the smaller villages, which offer attractive housing in the countryside.
The municipal housing company is called Morastrand AB. On their website, you can find information about their housing areas and look for vacant flats. There are also a couple of private housing companies that rent out flats: Diös AB, Bo bra and Nils Skoglund AB.

Central Mora has an employment service office, service offices for social insurance, banks, a police station, social services office and a pedestrian street with cafés and shops, among them Lidl, ICA supermarket and the Red Cross second-hand shop Kupan.
At the eastern entrance to Mora, there is Noret shopping centre, with Willys and ICA Maxi hypermarkets, and also Dollar Store, Ö&B, Biltema, El-Giganten, Intersport, Jula, Mio möbler and others. At the northern exit towards Älvdalen is Tuvan shopping centre, with the furniture stores Jysk and Europamöbler, and the second-hand shop Återbruket.
Culture and leisure
Central Mora has a library, culture house and a cinema. There is also the Vasaloppet museum and Zorn museum. In the village of Nusnäs outside Mora, craft traditions live on and this is where the dalahäst wooden horse is manufactured, which has become a symbol for Dalarna and Sweden. There are also many sports facilities in Mora municipality, including an indoor swimming pool. There is also a large range of walking paths and other outdoor activities.
Childcare
Mora municipality has 17 municipal and 11 private nursery schools, and 6 family day nurseries (of which one independent) for children aged 1–5 years. There are also 13 after-school clubs that look after children aged 6–13 years (through the spring term in the year the child turns 13 years). Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
Comprehensive schools are organised into 13 school units, well distributed across the various parts of the municipality. The majority of the schools are village schools, with around 20–200 pupils. At the largest school, which is in Mora, the number of pupils is around 600.
Comprehensive schools in Mora produce good results in terms of the pupils goal fulfilment, and in recent years, around 93 % of the pupils have been qualified to study on the national programmes of the upper secondary school. Mora has one upper secondary school, Mora gymnasium, which offers a range of the most common vocational and further education preparatory programmes, and also has several programmes specialising in sports, which attract pupils from all over Sweden.
Education opportunities
Adults who come to live in Mora can study komvux, adult education, Swedish for Immigrants, SfI, and special adult education at Mora gymnasium. We also offer social orientation for new arrivals in collaboration with DalaWux. An alternative to the municipal adult education is Mora folk high school, Skeriol. They offer a basic course in Swedish for new arrivals as well as other courses and programmes.
Dalarna university is in Falun/Borlänge, and offers special courses for newly arrived academics and a large range of programmes and other courses. Via Mora Högskolecentrum, it is also possible to live in Mora and study at a distance. Mora högskolecentrum collaborates with many colleges and universities and can therefore offer lots of different programmes and courses.

Health and medical care
Mora hospital is one of the two hospitals in the county with an accident and emergency department. It offers various types of specialist care, emergency room, medical centre, child healthcare clinic, ante-natal clinic, public dental care and a pharmacy. In the centre of Mora, there is another public dental clinic, pharmacy and private dental clinics.
Interpreter assistance
As we have a mutual need to understand each other, it is important that an interpreter is used when needed. These might be contacts with schools, medical care, employment service or other public authorities and municipal actors. Most interpreting is done via telephone, and each public authority or organisation is responsible for arranging an interpreter.
Public transport
Mora is the hub of northern Dalarna and has good communications by car, bus, train and air with other parts of the country. Dalatrafik is the company responsible for local and regional bus and train traffic. On their website, you can find timetables for all routes in the country and population centres.
Train trips outside the county are operated by SJ and Tåg i Bergslagen. Several bus companies, such as Swebus and Masaexpressen, run bus routes from Mora to Stockholm and other major cities. Mora also has Mora/Siljan airport, from where you can fly to Arlanda in 50 minutes, among other destinations.
Work and entrepreneurship
The biggest employers in Mora are Mora municipality (around 1,800 employees) and Region Dalarna. Manufacturing, hospitality and trade are the three major private business sectors. Mora is also a location where many commute and work elsewhere. Good communications make it possible to live in Mora and work in, for example, Rättvik, Orsa, Älvdalen, Leksand, Borlänge, Falun, Malung, Sälen and Vansbro.
