Language groups in the locality

Children who speak a language other than Swedish at home can get teaching in their own first language.

We offer first language teaching in Arabic, Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian, English, Finnish, French, Greek, Italian, Chinese/Mandarin, Lithuanian, Dutch, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, German, Romanian and sign language.

Associations and organisations

Kungsbacka municipality has a broad range of associations. There are more than 200 not-for-profit associations in the municipality, with a comprehensive and varied offering.

The municipality has all necessary services, with all public authorities and organisations involved in the establish process of newly arrive immigrants close to hand.

Kungsbacka is one of the largest trading centres in western Sweden. Freeport with around 50 shops, Kungsmässan with around 90 shops. Kungsbacka centre has a monthly market, second-hand shops and low price food shops. Göteborg has international food shops, with products from all over the world.

Childcare

Kungsbacka municipality offers a broad range of nursery schools, the skilled and committed staff who places the needs of each child in focus and work to give all children security, knowledge and a stable foundation for the future. We do everything we can to ensure your child has the opportunity to show what he or she can do, and get encouragement and acknowledgement.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

Children under the age of 16 years are offered a place in one of our comprehensive schools. Young persons between the ages of 16 and 19 years are given the opportunity to undertake Swedish upper secondary education. The schools offer education of high quality, which takes into account the needs of each pupil.

Children who speak a language other than Swedish at home can get teaching in their own first language. They are then taught their first language as a subject in the comprehensive school and upper secondary school. Pupils can also get study guidance in their first language, in one or several school subjects.

Education opportunities

Adults are given the opportunity to read Swedish for immigrants, SfI. If you have education and professional experience from your homeland, your competence will be evaluated. If you do not have education corresponding to comprehensive school, you may be given the opportunity to have supplementary teaching. Every individual – children, young people and adults – has different prerequisites.

An individual teaching plan will help each individual to find the best ways to achieve the goal. You should be able to understand and speak Swedish in everyday life, at work or in school. You will be given knowledge about social conditions in Sweden, working life and about your rights and obligations. You will meet people from working and professional life.

Health and medical care

We will help you to get the medical and social prerequisites to make sure you feel well. Kungsbacka medical centre offers newly arrived persons a health interview, health check and, as necessary, contacts with specialist doctors.

Interpreter assistance

There are opportunities to get help from an interpreter for contacts with public authorities.

Public transport

The commuter train between Kungsbacka and Göteborg departs every 15 minutes during peak hours, and takes 25 minutes to reach Göteborg. Long-distance trains depart every 30 minutes during peak hours. You can find timetables and prices on the website of Västtrafik.
