Haparanda town and the neighbouring town of Tornio in Finland form a modern trading centre in the middle of the Barents area. We are joining our towns together, with an entirely new section just on the border. Here, there will be a shopping centre, offices, a hotel and lots of other things, including an entirely new upper secondary school and a multi-use arena. Our collaboration covers most municipal operational areas, and because of this, we are unique. We live on the world’s friendliest border.

The learning environment in our schools is such that all children, pupils, students and staff feel the joy of growing and the satisfaction of making advances and succeeding.
Children, young persons and adults make international contacts and have a varied cultural offering and are stimulated to their own creativity and physical activities. A positive lifestyle and a meaningful leisure time shall be the factors that unite Haparanda and the entire region.
The culture school in Haparanda currently offers teaching in music, art, dance and theatre. The culture school teachers take care of nearly all music teaching in the municipality's comprehensive schools and upper secondary school. In music, the aim is that all pupils shall have the opportunity to play their instrument for at least 20 minutes per week. This can be done individually or in a group. As well as individual tuition, we also have orchestras and other activities that pupils can participate in as from year 3. Dance teaching is carried out in the afternoons and evenings for children of varying ages. Artistic dance is primarily taught. The aim is to increase the interest in dance in the municipality. The teaching takes place at the youth house Station. Two groups are studying art, both on Mondays. The art teaching is done at the Swedish-Finnish folk high school, under the guidance of the school's art teacher. Theatre activities take place in the evening at Staren assembly hall at Gränsskolan.
Social orientation teaching is carried out via a video link. There is adult upper secondary education and SfI, Swedish for Immigrants.
