Degerfors municipality is located in the old county of Värmland, and is part of Örebro county. We are located centrally between Stockholm, Göteborg and Oslo and have good communications by bus and train.

Our municipality is located in a beautiful area, with several lakes and pretty landscape. Degerfors has around 10,000 inhabitants. We live in a pleasant and secure environment, close to schools, work and nature.

The municipality is a Finnish management area, which means that Finnish is a large language group. Other major language groups are Tigrinya, Somali and Arabic.

What is available in the immediate area
Degerfors is the central population centre in the municipality. It has library, shops, food shops, café, restaurants, football pitches and a ball game hall. There are several second-hand shops and flea markets with a large range of furniture, household goods and clothes. There is also a medical centre. There are two smaller populations centres in the municipality, Svartå and Åtorp, which have nursery schools and schools, food shops and restaurants.
Childcare
There are eleven nursery schools in the municipality. Children aged 1 to 5 years spend time here while their parents study or work. There is also an open nursery school which is a meeting place for parents with children aged 0-6 years.
Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
There are six comprehensive schools in the municipality. These cater for pupils from the pre-school class up to year 9. The upper secondary school Möckelngymnasiet has both theoretical and practical programmes.
Education opportunities
Our neighbouring municipality Karlskoga has an occupational college, folk high school, adult upper secondary education and Swedish for Immigrants, SfI. There are universities in Örebro and Karlstad, both within 1 hour of travel. There are also a number of study associations offering various types of training.
Health and medical care
Degerfors has a medical centre, Pilgården. It offers child healthcare clinics and ante-natal clinics among other services. The nearest hospital is in Karlskoga. It offers accident and emergency medicine and a maternity department.
For dental care, there is both the county dental care and private alternatives.
The municipality is responsible for care of elderly, persons with disabilities and for children and families that need extra support.

Public transport
Bus traffic in the municipality is run by Länstrafiken i Örebro. Degerfors also has good train communications with Karlstad, Oslo, Stockholm and Göteborg. The nearest airports are in Örebro and Karlstad.
