Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

Comprehensive school covers the nine years of compulsory education. In Kumla muncipality we have 13 comprehensive schools, from preschool class until year 9.

Pupils who have recently arrived to Sweden normally begin their education in an introductory class. This gives them a basic knowledge of Swedish and establishes their schooling background. Once more is known about their previous schooling, an individual plan is made for their continued education. Introductory classes are available at Malmens skola for pupils in years 2-5; at Kumlaby skola for pupils in years 6-9; and at John Norlandergymnasiet for upper secondary pupils. Kumla has an upper secondary school, John Norlandergymnasiet, offering both theoretical and vocational programmes.

Education opportunities

In municipal adult education in Kumla you can do courses at the secondary and upper secondary levels, vocational programmes for adults at the upper secondary level, Swedish for immigrants (Sfi) programmes, and special needs adult education.

Health and medical care

The central community of Kumla has two medical care centres. An obstetrics ward, a paediatric centre, student health services, open preschool and various forms of family support are available in Familjens Hus.
