The population centre of Nora is idyllically situated by Nora lake, close to the woods and wilderness and yet only 30 minutes away from Sweden’s seventh largest city, Örebro. We can offer both small-town calm and access to all the opportunities of the big city.

The pretty town of Nora, with its wooden houses and surrounding landscape, retains an essential part of Swedish history: the small-town idyll, the traditional industrial community with its mines – and its own, now-vintage railway. Much of Nora today looks like it did a hundred years ago, offering cultural value and nostalgia.

Language groups in the locality
The main language groups in Nora, besides Swedish, are Dutch, German, Arabic, Kurdish, Persian, Dari, Somali, Tigrinya and Thai. There are also about ten other languages spoken by smaller groups of people.
Associations and organisations
Nora municipality has a large number of different types of associations, with more than 140 registered. We have three Christian congregations in central Nora, and more churches in the villages. The nearest mosque is in Örebro.
Our sports clubs offer a wide range of activities for different ages. Several of the clubs are successful, and the municipality is home to both national and international champions.
There are also many hobby and interest associations such as householder associations, dance societies, collectors' clubs, cultural associations, gardening associations etc.

What is available in the immediate area
Nora municipality has most things you could ask for. Supermarkets in Nora, Gyttorp and Järnboås. An employment agency, social welfare office, refugee reception centre, library, indoor swimming pool and sports facilities are all in central Nora.
Nora can also cater to most of your everyday needs, with shoe and clothes shops, a pharmacy, petrol stations, a furniture shop, building materials, paints, car repair shops, gyms and second-hand shops.
Childcare
Childcare is organised as preschool activities and school childcare. Children between the ages of 1 and 5 are offered preschool or optionally pedagogic care in the form of a family day nursery. For children between the ages of 6 and 13 there is school childcare at day recreation centres.
Pirayan family centre is a place for parents and children between the ages of 0 and 6 to meet. To socialise, have coffee, receive guidance and support, and meet other parents and children.
Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
Nora municipality has six municipal comprehensive schools and one independent school. Karlsängsskolan in central Nora is the municipality's lower secondary school.
Gymnasieskolan Hjernet, or GHJ (upper secondary school) in Nora has three introductory programmes: Individual, Preparatory and Vocational Introductory, while most of Nora's upper secondary pupils attend national programmes in Lindesberg or Örebro.
Education opportunities
Nora municipality has well functioning adult education programmes and proximity to higher education, e.g. at Örebro University. Municipal adult education is held at Hjernet and includes adult education, Sfi, special needs adult education and care/nursing programmes (vocational adult education). It is also possible to create made-to-measure contract education programmes and to connect digitally with various universities in order to do distance learning programmes.
Health and medical care
The medical care centre, obstetrics centre, paediatric centre and dental clinic are centrally located and easy to reach.
There are emergency wards at Lindesberg general hospital and at the University hospital in Örebro.

Public transport
Public transport from Nora is currently only by bus, but a rail alternative with trains to Örebro is being developed. The Nora bus terminal is located near Nora lake.

From Örebro there are direct trains to many parts of Sweden and to Olso in Norway. The nearest international airport is outside Örebro.
Work and entrepreneurship
The municipality is the biggest employer, with 750 employees. Nora has about 100 businesses in the private sector, where the biggest employers are Orica Minings, Sandvik i Nora AB, Danfo AB, Drillcon AB and Europrofil. In the summer Nora becomes a flourishing tourist destination, so the visitor industry is very important.
Nora is a markedly entrepreneurial municipality , collaborating with the local and regional business communities. For new startups, we have a partnership with ALMI and IFS (Internationella företagarföreningen i Sverige, the International association of entrepreneurs in Sweden).
