Örebro is Sweden's seventh largest municipality. The town of Örebro itself is just over 700 years old. The construction of the castle began in the 13th century. 70 per cent of Sweden’s population live within a radius of 30 miles of Örebro and Örebro Airport has flights within Sweden and to other parts of Europe. It is easy to take a train to other towns all over Sweden.

At the municipality's Service Centre there is the option of obtaining personal information about all services in the municipality in 15 languages. What is available in the immediate area

Örebro is the main town in an area with numerous smaller towns with good bus links. Immediately outside the town centre there are large shopping centres with many shops, cafés and an IKEA warehouse amongst other things.

Childcare

All children between the ages of 1 and 5 years are entitled to a place at a preschool or family day nursery in the town where you live or study. Örebro municipality offers childcare for your child​ from 1-year old to the spring term in which the child turns 13 years old.

Family centres are meeting places for parents and children and these are located in most large housing areas. Here you can play together, meet other families, get support and take part in group activities. At the family centres there are educationalists, welfare officers, children's nurses and midwives. The activities are open to all and you don't need to register. ​

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

Perrongen is a shared access to schools and childcare for children who have recently settled in Sweden. Here, you and your child will be provided with information regarding the Swedish school system and the child will be prepared for when he or she starts school.

Education opportunities

In Örebro there is a wide range of training options for adults. There are also many training opportunities in Örebro. The City Academy is Örebro's learning centre and is located in the same building as the municipal library. Here, Örebro municipality work together with, amongst others, Örebro University, adult education, professional associations, trade and industry and the job centre. One of the City Academy's main objectives is to fulfil local and regional needs for training and skill development in collaboration with trade and industry. Health and medical care

Örebro County has around thirty medical care centres. Most of them are run by Region Örebro County, but some are run by private care providers on commission from the region. The medical care centres are the basis of the county's medical care services, and it is to them you should turn in the first instance if you are ill or have questions regarding your health. The medical care centres also have maternity care and child health care centres.

Örebro has a university hospital with emergency care and specialist departments.

The municipality is responsible för health and medical care​ which includes home nursing, rehabilitation and assistance for people in care homes and sheltered housing, those living with special services, in day work, in service accommodation, personal assistance and those who require help from a social psychiatrist.

Region Örebro County is responsible for dental care, but there are also private care options.

Interpreter assistance

Public transport

Örebro has good communication links. It is easy to get to and from the town. It is also easy to travel between different parts of the town and also to towns close by with the bus. Örebro is a cyclist's town and there are 215 kilometres of cycle paths in the urban area.

Work and entrepreneurship

Örebro municipality is the region's biggest employer, with around 11,000 employees. Other major employers within the public sector include Region Örebro County and Örebro University. Some of the biggest employers in the private sector are Atlas Copco Rock Drills AB, Nobina Sverige AB, EuroMaint Rail AB and DHL Express AB.
