Ödeshög

Ödeshög has a scenic location, with the plains, Omberg and lake Vättern nearby. A small municipality with its sights set on increasing its population. The central community is also called Ödeshög, and there are two smaller communities, Trehörna and Hästholmen. The proximity of the E4 motorway means access to bigger towns such as Linköping and Jönköping is easy, taking less than an hour.

Housing

Most of the municipality's residents own their homes. Ödeshögsbostäder, the municipal housing company, manages 279 flats, most of them in Ödeshög but some located in Hästholmen. There are also a number of private landlords.

In Ödeshög you're always close to everything. In the centre is an ICA supermarket that also serves as post office. Nearby are the municipal office and library, where the local employment agency also operates one day a week. Specialist shops sell toys, children's clothes, shoes etc.

Childcare

The municipality has both municipal preschools and an independent one with Christian values. Pupils in preschool classes until year 5 can spend time before and after school at a day recreation centre.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

Ödeshög's municipal school is a school with shared structures and values. The biggest unit is Fridtjuv Bergskolan, which receives pupils from years 1-5. Pupils in years 6-9 attend Lysingskolan. At the upper secondary level we can offer the Individual programme option, but the other programmes are taught at schools in other locations.

Education opportunities

Ödeshög municipality has a study and vocation guidance counsellor who is available for interviews and information regarding further studies and career choices. One option is to make use of the region's choice of education programmes. The nearest university is in Linköping, and Jönköping has a university college.

Health and medical care

The county council's medical care centre, with an obstetrics centre, is in Ödeshög. The pharmacy and national dental health care services are in the same building. For emergencies there is an emergency ward at Motala general hospital.

Public transport

If you don't have a car you can travel by public transport buses. The nearest railway station is in Mjölby. Buses are run by Östgötatrafiken and trains by SJ.

Most work opportunities are in agriculture and forestry, manufacturing and extraction, and medical care and nursing. The biggest employer is Ödeshög municipality. There are large companies in Mjölby (Toyota Industries Europe AB) and Väderstad (Väderstad-Verken AB).
