Skåne is an attractive and dynamic part of Sweden. Skåne is a multi-cultural meeting place for people, research and innovative companies from all over the world. The county is the southern-most county in Sweden, and just over 1.2 million people live here, of which many are young. 90 % live in the towns, 17 % were born abroad, and 170 different languages are spoken. Skåne is famous for its fine agricultural land, long coastline and beautiful landscape.

Housing situation

In recent years, Skåne's housing market has been characterised by a shortage of rented flats in the major cities. Business and employers

Region Skåne is the largest employer in the county, with 36,000 employees. Many employees work within health and medical care, business, culture and environment. The Skåne municipalities have many employees within schools, childcare and administration. The largest private employers are PEAB AB, Sony and Posten AB.

Schools and education

Lund University, which is the largest in the county, has 47,700 students and 7,500 employees, working mainly in Lund, Malmö and Helsingborg. Malmö University has 25,000 students and 1,400 employees. Culture and leisure

Skåne has a broad range of cultural activities. There are several theatres, orchestras, museums and well-visited libraries. You can borrow books for free from your municipality library. During leisure time, many are active within associations. Membership of a sports club, trade union or special interest association is common. Some of all the associations in Skåne are members of the network "Nätverket".

All are welcome to spend time freely in our natural surroundings, in the forest, by the sea or next to a lake. Allemansrätten, the right of public access to land, tells you what you are allowed to do in nature. Skåne has more than 200 nature reserves and three national parks.

Skåne's most visited tourist attractions are Ale Stenar standing stones, Söderåsen national park and the cathedral in Lund. There are 500 churches in the county. Skåne has 240 castles and manor houses, which is the highest number in Sweden.
