Hörby is a small municipality, close to larger towns and beautiful landscape. Here you can get the feeling of being in the middle of the wilderness, and yet people, shops and comforts are never far away. The municipality covers a large area, and, apart from Hörby, also consists of small villages.

In Hörby there are mostly single-family houses, but also rented flats and tenant-owner flats.

Language groups in the locality

Two major language groups are Arabic and Persian. Polish, Albanian and Serbo-Croat are also spoken in the municipality.

Associations and organisations

Hörby has a large range of associations, with more than 120 registered associations within sports and culture. There is a project called Integration i förening, which is intended to make it easier for people born abroad to join associations.

What is available in the immediate area

Here you can find everything you will need for day-to-day life. The population centre has a pharmacy, banks, library and social services office. There are also second-hand shops. There is a fine swimming arena, with indoor and outdoor pools, bowling and exercise facilities. In the smaller villages outside the main population centre, the range is more limited. To make bigger purchases or to see public authorities, such as the social insurance office and employment service, you have to travel to one of the neighbouring municipalities, such as Höör or Eslöv.

Childcare

Hörby has both municipal and private nursery schools. The queueing time is relatively short.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

Hörby municipality has seven municipal comprehensive schools, one special comprehensive schols and one independent school. Three of the schools are in the main population centre, and four are in the countryside. The special comprehensive schools is located alongside Georgshillsskolan and the independent school is in Ludvigsborg.

Hörby municipality does not have its own upper secondary school. There is an independent vocational school at upper secondary level in the municipality: Hörby yrkesgymnasium.

Education opportunities

At Hörby learning centre, there is adult education, SfI (Swedish for immigrants) and IM (introductory programme).

Health and medical care

Hörby population centre has a medical centre, ante-natal clinic, child healthcare clinic and a public dental clinic. Private health and medical care is also available locally.

Interpreter assistance

Irrespective of which municipality you are interested in, you are entitled to interpreter services in conjunction with meetings with public authorities.

Public transport

Hörby population centre is located alongside the motorway (E22). Because of this, there are good bus communications with Malmö, Lund, and Kristianstad via Skåneexpressen. There are also regional buses and supplementary transport for transport to and from other locations.

Work and entrepreneurship

There are both big and small employers in the municipality, such as within medical technology and the vehicle industry. Hörby municipality is also an employer. The larger cities of Malmö, Lund and Kristianstad, as well as several neighbouring towns, are within commuting distance and can offer job opportunities.
