Gnesta is a young municipality at the heart of the Södermanland cultural landscape. You can reach us by commuter train from Stockholm in an hour. With the regional train, it takes only just over half an hour, and there are also connections to Linköping, Göteborg and Örebro.

Gnesta municipality has a strong entrepreneurship spirit, with just over 1,000 registered companies. Many of them are agricultural, which, together with our lakes (180 in number), lays the foundation for our beautiful and varied natural landscape. Gnesta offers a broad range of leisure activities for all interests, ages and seasons. The municipality also includes the smaller population centres Stjärnhov, Björnlunda and Laxne. Here you can also enjoy the beautiful landscape and many activities within culture and art.
The municipal housing company Gnestahem can offer central housing in the main town, but also housing in the smaller population centres around the municipality for those who want to be close to the forest and lakes. Gnesta town has an employment service, library and a citizens' office. There are lots of different types of shops, as well as banks, pharmacy, cinema and a popular swimming pool, etc. There are two food shops in the centre, and one on the outskirts of Gnesta. The smaller population centres in the municipality have several shops and food stores, such as Strandhallen in Stjärnhov and Jarbells in Björnlunda.
Gnesta has two second hand shops with furniture and household goods.
There are 11 municipal and 3 private nursery schools in Gnesta municipality. Each nursery school has between two and four departments.
Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
There are five municipal schools. Frejaskolan, Pre-school – Year 9, and Dansutskolan, Pre-school – Year 5, in Gnesta, Kvarnbackaskolan, Pre-school – Year 5, in Stjärnhov, Welandersborgsskolan, Pre-school – Year 5 in Björnlunda and Laxneskolan, Pre-school – Year 5, in Laxne. Gnesta also has an independent Waldorf school, Pre-school – Year 9.
Gnesta municipality does not have its own upper secondary school, but there is an independent one – Baggium Gnesta practical upper secondary school. There are also agreements with the municipalities of Strängnäs, Flen, Nyköping, Salem, Botkyrka and Södertälje.
For adults wishing to study, there are many opportunities depending on what you are interested in and at what level you want to study. For example, the Education Centre in central Gnesta offers adult education, special adult education, Swedish for immigrants, further education, etc.
Health and medical care
If you need health and medical care, there is a medical centre in Gnesta. There is also a district nurse clinic in Stjärnhov. The nearest accident and emergency centre is in Nyköping, which is around 45 km from Gnesta. Gnesta also has family centre/antenatal care centre. If you need dental care, there is public dental care at Folktandvården and a number of private dental clinics in Gnesta municipality.

Gnesta municipality is easily reached, with the E4 motorway and the railway as important transport routes. Public transport consists of train traffic stopping in Gnesta, as well as regional and local bus traffic, which makes the smaller population centres accessible as well. Gnesta station is the municipality's transport hub, with coordination between trains and buses. For the smaller population centres in the municipality, there is regular public transport by bus.
A large number of the municipality's inhabitants in paid employment commute to workplaces outside the municipality, by train, bus or car. The commuter train takes 30 minutes to Södertälje, and the journey time to Stockholm is less than an hour by train.
