Language groups in the locality

One quarter of Haninge's population was born in a foreign country. The most common countries of birth, apart from Sweden, are Poland, Finland, Turkey and Chile. Haninge has many associations that focus on everything from sports and culture to religion and politics. There is something for everyone here. You can find all active associations on the municipality's association register.

What is available in the immediate area

Haninge has municipal information, employment service, social services and social insurance offices. In Handen centre, there is a large range of shops and restaurants. Just outside central Handen, there are supermarkets and other large shopping areas.

Childcare

Haninge has many nursery schools and family day nurseries, both municipal and independent. You child can start from the age of one year. There are two open nursery schools that anyone can attend, and the open nursery school is free of charge.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

There are around twenty municipal comprehensive schools and ten independent comprehensive schoosl in Haninge. The upper secondary schools Fredrika Bremergymnasierna in Haninge are operated by the municipality. There are six different schools with various upper secondary education programmes. There is also a agricultural upper secondary school.

Education opportunities

Haninge offers several options for adult education. If you have turned 20 years, you can start studying at Centrum Vux.You can read courses in mathematics or languages, for example. There are also various vocational courses. You can study in the daytime or in the evening. At Centrum Vux, you can also study Swedish for Immigrants, SfI.

At the Royal Institute of Engineering, you can find various engineering programmes and at Alma folk high school, you can supplement your upper secondary education.

Health and medical care

Haninge has several medical care centres, child health care centres, and also a youth advice centre. There are also a number of dentists and a maternity care centre at Handen's hospital. Region Stockholm is responsible for ensuring that the county's inhabitants get the health and medical care they need.

Interpreter assistance

If you do not speak or understand Swedish, you are entitled to help from an interpreter of your language when contacting public authorities. You are also entitled to an interpreter if you have impaired hearing or speech. In Haninge, you should tell us that you need an interpreter when you book your appointment, and we will arrange for this.

Public transport

Haninge is accessed by commuter trains or bus. The archipelago also has ferries. The commuter train stops in Handen, Jordbro, Västerhaninge, Krigslida, Tungelsta and Hemfosa when coming from the north. Work and entrepreneurship

Haninge municipality has more than 6,000 companies of varying sizes. Everything from small, local companies with a few employees to large international companies, such as Coca Cola. The municipality is the largest employer in Haninge, with nearly 5,000 employees. But as you can reach Stockholm central station in just 25 minutes, you can work anywhere in the Stockholm region without having far to go to work.
