There are both private and municipal housing companies in Norrtälje municipality. The municipal company Roslagsbostäder AB is the largest management company for accommodation and has accommodation in all parts of the municipality.​

Language groups in the locality

There are many different language groups represented in Norrtälje municipality which is partially due to the fact that for a long time the municipality has had an influx of immigrants. Some of the languages spoken are Arabic, Tigrinya, Somalian and Dari.

In central Norrtälje there is a job centre with the regional social insurance office, pension office and tax office with customer services also accommodated within the same premises. There are also food shops, a chemist, cafés, restaurants, a cinema and different types of shops.

Childcare

The preschools in Norrtälje municipality are aimed at children aged between 1 and 5 years. The schools are run in the form of preschools, family day nurseries, night care and general and open preschools. The municipality has 66 preschools. We have preschools in all locations and in every small community.

We also have several open preschools to which all families with children aged between 0 and 6 years are welcome.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

All children aged between 6 and 16 years go to comprehensive school. These are run in the form of schools, after-school recreation centres and youth recreation centres. Our municipality has 35 comprehensive schools and you'll find schools in all locations.

At Lommar School, Roslags School, Långsjö School and Roden Upper Secondary School we offer introductory language courses for children and young people who have recently come to live in Sweden.

The municipality also has four upper secondary schools.

Education opportunities

At Norrtälje municipal adult education, those whose mother tongue is not Swedish can receive basic instruction in the Swedish language and Swedish society. Adult education is offered in Norrtälje municipality by Norrtälje Municipal Adult Education (NKV) and Campus Roslagen.

Health and medical care

In Norrtälje municipality you'll find everything from welfare centres to child welfare centres and a hospital with an A&E department.

There are also dentists at various locations within the community.

Public transport

Norrtälje is a large municipality by area and its proximity to Stockholm and Uppsala mean that many people commute both to and from the municipality. Many buses operate between Norrtälje and Stockholm with spacious double-deckers which offer free wi-fi during the journey. Buses also regularly travel between Norrtälje, Rimbo and Hallstavik and to Uppsala and Arlanda.
