Language groups in the locality

Täby is home to many different nationalities and language groups, including Persian/Dari, Arabic, Kurdish, Somali and Spanish. Children and young people whose native language is not Swedish are entitled to study guidance in their native language ​throughout compulsory schooling and beyond: in preschool, schools for pupils with special needs, upper secondary school and upper secondary school for pupils with special needs. Schools in Täby provide study guidance in more than thirty different languages to pupils whose native language is not Swedish.

Associations and organisations

Civil society is vibrant in Täby, with over 400 associations for everything from sport, culture and outdoor recreation to nursing and care for the community and its inhabitants.

Täby has many religious associations, including:
Filadelfia (Pentecostal), the Iranian Cultural Association, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Muslim Cultural Association, the Church of Sweden/Täby congregation, the Täby Africa Group, Täby's Baptist congregation, the Täby congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and the Catholic congregation of Our Lady.

What is available in the immediate area

Social services such as an employment agency and a social welfare office are available. The Tax Agency and the Social Insurance Agency do not have service centres in Täby. These are available in Stockholm. The Täby Centrum shopping centre has a large number of shops and restaurants. There are several libraries in the municipality.

The churches' second hand shop sells used furniture, electronic and sports equipment, textiles, clothes, crockery and books.

At Prata svenska-cafét (the Speak Swedish Café) you can practise speaking Swedish, do your homework, get information about Sweden and Swedish traditions, and advice for dealing with public authorities.​

As Täby is located by Stora Värtan it offers easy access to the beautiful and much appreciated archipelago, and opportunities for fishing and swimming. Täby has a number of sports facilities, including covered sports centres and athletics venues. Täby can provide many opportunities for exercise and recreation, with several golf courses, indoor and outdoor gyms, a skateboarding park and riding schools. There are also jogging trails with electric lighting.​

Childcare

Täby has both preschool for children aged 1-5 and other pedagogic activities in the form of family day nurseries for children aged 1-9. Most preschools in Täby are run as independent schools. Two preschools are run by the municipality. You are free to choose preschool or other pedagogic activity.​

Comprehensive and upper secondary schools

There are several comprehensive schools and u​pper secondary schools ​in Täby, both municipal and independent.

In Täby, pupils who are new to Sweden are immediately integrated into a normal class and given extra support.

Täby's upper secondary schools offer a wide selection of theoretical, vocational and special programmes.​

Education opportunities

Täby municipality provides adult education through Kunskapscentrum Nordost. You are entitled to learn Swedish free of charge (Sfi – Swedish for immigrants) and also to complete your comprehensive school education if you do not have that qualification. Adult education at the upper secondary level is offered primarily to those who did not complete upper secondary education (basic qualification), but you also have the possibility of supplementing the courses required for entry into post-secondary education.

Civic information is a course about Swedish society for people who are new to Sweden. It comprises 60 hours of study, with teaching usually provided in your native language. The course teaches you how Swedish society functions and what you need to do in order to enter the labour market and civil society quickly. You are entitled to do the course if you came to Sweden as a refugee, meaning that you have or will receive an introduction plan from the Employment Service. There is the possibility of doing the course even if you did not arrive in Sweden as a refugee – ask your case worker.

Adult education courses at Lärvux correspond to special needs programmes at the comprehensive and upper secondary level.

Health and medical care

Täby municipality has several family clinics and child healthcare centres​, an obstetrics ward and a youth clinic you can turn to.

Täby has both public dental care and dentists in private practice. The nearest emergency hospital is in Danderyd, about 10 km from Täby.

Täby's community hospital, currently Aleris specialist care Täby, covers several different areas of specialist care.

Interpreter assistance

If you do not speak or understand Swedish, you are entitled to have an interpreter present for all you contacts with public authorities. You are also entitled to have an interpreter if you have a serious hearing or speech disability.​

Public transport

Bus​es

Täby has a large network of bus routes, many of which begin in Täby Centrum. It is easy to make your way around Täby and to reach nearby municipalities as well as Stockholm.

Roslags​banan

Roslagsbanan (the Roslagen Line) is the trunk line of public rail transport north of Stockholm. Roslagsbanan gets you to Täby quickly – from Östra Station in Stockholm the journey to Täby Centrum takes about 20 minutes.

At Östra Station and Mörby Centrum you can change to the Metro, giving you easy access to all of Stockholm.

Work and entrepreneurship

The municipality is a major employer. Additionally there are about 7000 businesses in Täby – but there is space for more. Most businesses are small and active in the services, trade or electronics/IT sectors. There are also many businesses in the construction, property, education and health care sectors. Täby is unique among Swedish municipalities for its large number of businesses in education and health care.
