Tierp
Tierp kommun has fishing villages, natural beauty, castles and manors. The coast and the sea are nearby, as are the big cities of Gävle, Uppsala and Stockholm. Tierp is also close to Arlanda airport. If you can't find what you need, it is a quick trip to Uppsala or Gävle, where the selection is bigger.
Childcare
Preschool is for children between the ages of 1 and 5. Tierp municipality has 17 preschools, in Tierp, Kyrkbyn, Mehedeby, Månkarbo, Söderfors, Tobo, Vendel and Örbyhus and Edvalla/Hållnäs, Karlholm and Skärplinge.
At family day nurseries, child minders receive children in their own homes. There are family day nurseries in Skärplinge and Karlholm, Kyrkbyn, Mehedeby, Tierp, Vendel and Örbyhus.

Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
Swedish law stipulates that all children in Sweden between the ages of 7 and 16 must go to school. They attend comprehensive school, which is from year 1 until year 9. Most children start when they are seven, but they can also start at six, in which case they attend preschool classes.

Health and medical care
In central Tierp is Tierp medical care centre. It has a paediatric centre, an emergency ward, psychologists and a doctors' and nurses' consultancy.

Public transport
Tierp municipality is close to Stockholm, Arlanda, Uppsala and Gävle. Upplands Lokaltrafik runs the buses in Uppsala county.
The railway station is in the centre of Tierp town. Long-distance trains arrive from the north (Gävle) and from the south (Uppsala, Arlanda and Stockholm).
With Upptåget, a regional line, you can travel all the way to Gävle to the north and Uppsala to the south.
Upptåget also serves Arlanda airport.
Work and entrepreneurship
Tierp has a few large companies and many small businesses. Larger companies include Atlas Copco, Munters and Erasteel. Excellent communications mean that a much larger labour market is within commuting distance.
