Pharmacies and medicines

Last updated: 8/12-2022

Some medicines you can only buy if you have a prescription from your doctor. But there are also medicines you can buy without a prescription.

Medicines are sold in pharmacies. Some prescription-free medicines can also be bought in other shops such as supermarkets.

The staff in pharmacies know a lot about illnesses and medicines. They can answer many of your questions. Pharmacies also have information leaflets and brochures about various illnesses.

You can also buy medicines from pharmacies and other shops online. Check that the website you are buying from has a permit to sell medicine before you buy. If you buy from a website that has no permit you may be buying falsified medicine. Look out for the EU symbol for online sales of medicines, and the national symbol for pharmacies.
