Dental care

Last updated: 9/12-2022

Sweden has both public and private dental care. Public dental care is run by the regions and is known as Folktandvården (the Public Dental Service).

There are many private dentists in Sweden. The rules for how much you have to pay vary. It depends on where you live and what dentist you choose.

Dental care in Sweden often involves preventive dental care. This means that you have to visit dental care regularly to keep your teeth healthy.

Everyone under the age of 23 in Sweden has free dental care, with the Public Dental Service as well as with private dentists. All children and young people are regularly called to the dentist for check-ups, treatments and preventive dental care. Adults have to contact the dentist themselves.
