Sjöbo municipality is located in the centre of southern Skåne, near to the major city region Malmö-Lund. The municipality is the largest by size in Skåne, and consists of several villages apart from Sjöbo town. The villages are active and offer services, shops and activities.

Sjöbo town has several shops and a broad range of services. Sjöbo market is held in July each year, and is one of Sweden's best known and oldest markets.
In Sjöbo, you can choose between living in a flat, terraced house or detached house, irrespective of whether you want to buy or rent your home. There are major private and municipal housing companies that rent out homes. A list of property owners is available on the municipality's website, but many private landlords also rent out cottages and small houses, so that you can also look for housing on Blocket homes, or other housing websites on the Internet.

The major language groups in Sjöbo apart from Swedish are Danish, Polish, German and Thai. We also have inhabitants who speak English, Dutch, Arabic, Dari and Pashtu.
Associations and organisations
There are many active associations and organisations in Sjöbo municipality. On the municipality's website, you can search the association register if you want to find a particular sport or a special area of interest, for example. The Church of Sweden is the largest religious organisation in Sjöbo municipality. Lund and Malmö, which are both close to Sjöbo, have a large number of organisations and religious communities for many different religions and religious groups.

Sjöbo town has an open-air market and several food shops, other shops and cafés. There is a library, pharmacy, the Flora cinema and an indoor swimming pool as well. The villages also have shops, and Blentarp, Lövestad and Vollsjö also have libraries. There are football pitches in many places around the municipality. In Sjöbo, there is the youth and culture house Navet, for young people aged 13–20 years. In Blentarp, Lövestad and Vollsjö, there are leisure centres for young people aged 13–20 years.
In Sjöbo town, you can find the employment service, refugee reception and the municipality's individual and family care office. Social insurance has an office in Ystad, to where you can travel by bus. The tax authority also has an office in Ystad.
Cheap furniture can be bought at one of the many flea markets frequently arranged by sports clubs and others within the municipality. Erikshjälpen in Tomelilla also has some furniture. Sjöbo has the chain store Jysk, which sells furniture and household goods. The nearest IKEA is on the outskirts of Malmö. If you do not have access to a car, you can get to Malmö by bus and then change to the train towards Svågertorp station.
The nursery schools welcome children whose parents are working or studying, from the age of 1 until they start school. At nursery school, children's abilities in language, mathematics, motor and social skills have the opportunity to develop. Play, music and creative activities constitute the basis for children's creative development.
For parents who do not work or study, we offer public pre-school (15 hours/week) as from the autumn term of the year the child turns 3 years. Public pre-school offers all children educational stimulation to improve their opportunities for learning and development. The public pre-school is free of charge.

The open pre-school in Sjöbo is called Mötesplatsen and is open two days a week for all families with children aged 0–5 years. It offers educational activities for small and big children. At Mötesplatsen, parents have the opportunity to make contacts, enjoy the community and exchange experiences.
The Church of Sweden in Sjöbo also has activities for children and parents.
Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools
Sjöbo municipality has six municipal comprehensive schools and three independent comprehensive schools. Three of the schools are in Sjöbo town, the others in the villages Blentarp, Lövestad and Vollsjö.
At the Malena upper secondary school in Sjöbo, young persons who have completed comprehensive school can read the programmes Building and Constructions, Vehicles and Transport or Hotel and Tourism. Several other upper secondary school programmes can be applied for within commuting distance to Ystad, Lund or Malmö. Applications are made via skanegy.se.
Sjöbo offers adult education. You can also read Swedish for Immigrants (SfI) and social orientation for new arrivals. We have good teachers and guides to help and support you. Lund University and Malmö College are both within commuting distance from Sjöbo. There are also many folk high schools in the municipalities around Sjöbo.
Health and medical care
In Sjöbo town there are two medical centres, Vårdcentralen Sjöbo and Novakliniken Sjöbo. Both offer many different services, such as ante-natal clinics and child healthcare.
Both the public dentist service and Novakliniken offer dental care in Sjöbo, and there are also private dentist clinics here.
The nearest hospital is in Ystad. There are also university hospitals in Lund and Malmö.
You are entitled to interpreter services in contacts with public authorities and medical care. It is a good idea if you state that you need interpreter assistance already when booking an appointment with an authority or medical care.
In Sjöbo municipality, you can travel by regional bus within the municipality or to other municipalities. Skånetrafiken operate the buses.
There are many bus routes in the municipality, also fast buses to Malmö and Lund. By bus, it takes half an hour to travel from Sjöbo bus station to Ystad, between 40 and 55 minutes to Lund and around one hour to Malmö.
Skåne also has the Pågatåget train services, which consists of various train routes that link several locations in Skåne. Pågatåget stops in Ystad, Lund and Malmö, and from there you can easily and hourly travel further on in Skåne or to Denmark. From Skånetrafiken, you can also buy tickets and travel to Blekinge county or Halland county, or to Göteborg. From Lund and Malmö you can also travel via various train companies to Norway (Oslo) or to Stockholm and many other destinations.
From Ystad, ferries leave for Poland and Denmark (island of Bornholm). There is an airport outside Malmö (Sturup) and a large international airport in Copenhagen (Kastrup). It takes around one and a half hours to travel by bus and train from Sjöbo to Kastrup.

Sjöbo municipality is the largest employer in the municipality, with around 1,200 employees.
