Norberg

Norberg is a mining municipality and forms the centre of one of the country’s oldest mining areas. The municipality comprises the chief town of Norberg together with Kärrgruvan and Karbenning and a number of other small mining towns.

The municipality is located in the northern part of Västmanland and shares borders with Fagersta, Sala and Dalarna (Smedjebacken, Hedemora and Avesta). The varied landscape is dominated by forests and agriculture and there are many lakes. 80% of the population lives in urban areas.

    In Norberg you'll find a chemist's shop, banks, a library, welfare centre, a dentist, 2 large food shops, a toy shop, hair stylists, a veterinary surgeon, a well-known bakery, Elsa Andersons Konditori, another café, second-hand shops and restaurants. The nearest Ikea store can be found in Västerås. You'll find Jysk in Avesta municipality. A job centre, regional social insurance office and tax office can be found in Fagersta municipality. There is a lovely community centre with good leisure opportunities.

    Childcare

    In Norberg there are five preseschools and an independent preschool. You can read more about all of them on the municipality's website. Open preschools can also be found run in collaboration with the Church of Sweden.​

    Youth activities for slightly older children can be found at the youth centre in Unkan.

    Compulsory schools and upper secondary schools

    There are preschools in Norberg and comprehensive schools for years 1-9. Upper secondary schools and sfi tuition is available in Fagersta.
